Manufacturing and importing businesses in the country have been charged to leverage on the Standards Organisation of Nigeria accredited laboratories to be competitive.
The standards agency says that consumer confidence in locally made products would be boosted if products undergo laboratory testing and certification.
Nigeria’s export market has consistently contended with rejection from countries abroad. while locally produced goods continue to face questions of quality assurance.
As all of these continue to impact negatively on the national economy, the standards agency, at this forum underscored the importance of laboratory testing and effective certification of products to drive growth.
The standards authority also stated that its laboratories have been repositioned to carry out any form of testing required for both locally and imported products.
Participants lauded the agency’s efforts at creating an enabling infrastructure for economic diversification .
The initiative is to ensure that products meet the minimum requirement of the Nigerian Industrial Standards.
