The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has accused Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration of concealing the true costs of the Assumpta single-lane interchange flyover and the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu Conference Centre, both of which were inaugurated on Tuesday.

In a statement, the opposition party said the state government’s refusal to publish contract details reflects “monumental corruption” and amounts to “advertising its criminality while citizens groan in pain.”

The PDP alleged that the Public Procurement Bureau had been sidelined under Uzodimma, with the governor personally controlling contract awards and costs, which are deliberately kept undisclosed.

It criticised the government for prioritising “edifices” in Owerri while public schools, health facilities and critical urban and rural roads remain in disrepair. The party listed several neglected roads, including the Umuguma Road, Nekede–Ihiagwa Road, and stretches around New Owerri, which it described as “a disgrace to behold.”

“Ridiculously, the Governor is wasting billions erecting a few new edifices in the city, whereas citizens struggle daily to eke out a living,” the statement read.

The PDP challenged the state government to publish the actual costs of the two projects within 48 hours, warning that it would release its own findings if the governor fails to do so.
