Image result for IGP links Benue attacks to militant group in GaraInspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has clarified that the recent killings in Zaki Biam, Benue State in North Central Nigeria was not as a result of Fulani Herdsmen attacks, but rather the handiwork of militants in Gara who have been terrorizing the Benue-Kogi axis.

The Police Chief made these clarifications to Statehouse Correspondents after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday.

Statehouse Correspondent TAI AMODU reports  that there seems to be rising internal Insecurity in the land, and this is cause for concern for President Muhammadu Buhari who on Friday, summoned the Inspector General of Police, to the Presidential Villa to listen to his briefs on how the Police was handling the situation.

The clash between Hausas and Yorubas in Ile Ife some weeks ago, further raises concerns about criminality in the land but the Police Chief assures that a Special team has been deployed to investigate and find out the remote and immediate causes of the violent clash.

He dismisses insinuations about the onesidedness of the arrests made so far, insisting that the Police has not put ethnic colourations into doing their jobs.

In a similar vein he takes time to clarify issues surrounding the Zaki Biam killings and is emphatic that the attacks were not perpetrated by Fulani Herdsmen, but by a militant who is on the Police Force’s most wanted list.

He stresses that the militant is also responsible for the wave of crimes, especially kidnappings in the Kogi axis of the country

Idris is confident that with the Special Anti-Terrorism units of the Police that he has deployed to the troubled spots, the wanted Militant, Gara will soon be brought to book.
