The President of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria (HEKAN), Reverend Amos G. Kiri, has declared open the 2026 Girls Brigade HEKAN Fellowship Camp in Kaduna.

The annual camp, holding at HEKAN Church Television in Kaduna, is aimed at promoting the spiritual growth of its members through faith-based and developmental activities.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Reverend Kiri—represented by his Vice President, Reverend Jibra’ilu Ibrahim Wobiya—commended officers and participants for attending despite prevailing challenges.

He expressed pride in the organisation’s role in nurturing young girls to become responsible and spiritually grounded individuals, describing the Girls Brigade as a vital platform for character development within the church.

The HEKAN President also reaffirmed the church’s commitment to supporting the organisation, while urging parents and guardians to intensify efforts in enrolling their children and wards.

“I wish to thank parents for releasing and sponsoring their children to attend this year’s camp. It is a thing of joy to see children gathered from across HEKAN churches nationwide in this manner, doing the work of God. It gladdens our hearts as a church,” he said.

He further appealed to parents to encourage participation in the Girls Brigade, noting that early spiritual guidance is crucial for the moral upbringing of children.

“If we don’t catch them young in the affairs of God, the world will, and that will not be beneficial to the parents, the church, or society at large,” he added.

Reverend Kiri also pledged to engage other church leaders to strengthen the organisation across HEKAN congregations, with a view to boosting participation in national events and fostering the growth of the younger generation.

Activities lined up for the camp include Bible studies, teachings, and games. The annual Easter camp is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
