The calls for state and community policing over worsening insecurity in different parts of Nigeria, has gained the backing of state governors.
Faced with mounting security challenges such as banditry, kidnapping and terrorism the governors have agreed to push for a law to facilitate a state police system.

The Nigeria Governors Forum resolved that once the law is in place, every state will be free to fix the timeline it will put its State Police Force in place based on availability of resources.
The NGF says it will present a memo on the matter to the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee after securing the support of President Muhammadu Buhari.
