Governor of Cross-river State, Bassey Otu has inaugurated the Calabar-Obudu railway project, marking a new era of economic growth and infrastructure development.
According to Gov Otu, the groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant milestone, as the project aims to connect the southern and northern regions of the state, unlocking its vast economic potential.
In his remarks, Governor Otu underscored the project’s significance, highlighting its role in stimulating economic development, creating opportunities for residents, and solidifying the state’s position as a key player in Nigeria’s economy.
Earlier, Commissioner for Transport Cobham Ekpenyong commended Governor Otu’s vision and commitment to infrastructure development, noting that the project demonstrates his dedication to transforming Cross River State.
Stakeholders welcomed the project, anticipating numerous benefits, including job creation, economic growth, and improved connectivity.
GRANDLITO RAILWAY PROJECT which is expected to run from Calabar to Obudu On completion, will cover an approximate distance of 365km with main terminals in Calabar and Obudu; while three sub-stations will be located at Ugep, Ikom and Ogoja. The conservative cost estimate for the project is $350m (Three Hundred and Fifty Million Dollars) only.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, members of the state executive council, members of the State house of Assembly and residents.
