Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde has urged youths to actively prepare themselves to assume leadership roles, bringing fresh ideas and innovations into governance.
He made the call while speaking at a two-day students’ legislative summit in Ibadan.
In the last 5 years, Nigeria has witnessed a significant increase in youth participation in politics.
According to reports, compared to the 2015 and 2019 elections, in 2023 youth representation rose from 3 % in 2019 to 3.92%, signifying a 0.9% increase and a 0.3% increase at the state level.
It is against this backdrop that the speaker of Oyo state Assembly and chairman conference of speakers Adebo Ogundoyin has organised this students summit aimed at educating students about the legislative process and its significance in shaping national development.
In his address, Governor Makinde reflected on the history of individuals who have ruled Nigeria, emphasizing the significant role of youth in shaping the political trajectory of the nation.
The event is the maiden edition of its kind which has in attendant students from 65 institutions across the nation.
