Gov. Lawal visits EU Ambassador, seeks support on security, health, water supply, rural Dev’t., others

Governor of Zamfara state, Dauda Lawal has called on the European Union to assist the state especially in the areas of Security, health, Education, economy and youth Empowerment among others.The Governor says the Zamfara is in dear need of strong relationship with the EU to revamp the state

Dr. Lawal intimated the European Union ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi of the current situation of Zamfara state when he paid her a courtesy visit in her office, in Abuja

A press statement signed by the Director General, Media and Communication, to the Governor, Nuhu Salihu Anka said the visit is in continuous effort to seek for more support to the state in different sectors.

He noted that the state is in need of support from the European union particularly on security which remain prerequisite to any development, as well as support in other sectors that include Education especially that of the girl child Healthcare delivery, Water supply, rural and urban development.

Other sectors that need support according to the Governor are as skills acquisition for development and productivity, which will in turn help in reducing criminal activities across the state.

Mr. Lawal appealed to the E.U to give special intervention to revive the health sector by providing modern health facilities, adequate manpower and other materials needed to have standard healthcare centres especially at the primary healthcare level.

He added that his administration is able to downsize the cost of governance by reducing the number of ministries from twenty eight to sixteen active ministries to be maned by competent officers of vast experience and integrity in public service.

The number of permanent secretaries has also been trimmed with a view to reducing overloading the entire civil service and cut cost to ensure effective system of governance.

Responding, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria Samuela Issopi said there is need for vibrant corporation with Nigeria on security more especially in the Northwest region.

Issopi noted that the E.U will corporate with Zamfara State government especially on Climate change, educational development, active participation in good governance, women and child right act implementation among others.

Ambassador Issopi congratulate Dauda Lawal on his election victory as Zamfara State Governor, saying the European Union will visit some states and Zamfara is listed amongst the first to be visited.
