Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gabajabiamila, has introduced the National Pledge recitation on the floor as a way of fostering national unity.
The lawmakers resumed on Tuesday from their annual recess.
In his welcome address, Gbajabiamila commended South Africa opposition leader, Julius Malema, for condemning xenophobic attacks against other nationals in his country.
The Speaker also commended the Chief Executive of Air Peace for airlifting Nigerians from South Africa.
While commenting on fiscal policies, Gbajabiamila urged the Executive arm of government to submit Medium Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF and the 2020 Appropriation Bill in record time, saying the parliament is ready to return Nigeria to January-December fiscal calendar year.
Gbajabiamila also hinted that the lawmakers will reintroduce the Bill prohibiting estimated billing in the power sector.
The Speaker is also hopeful the ninth National Assembly will pass the Petroleum Industry Bill.
The Standing committees announced in July are to commence work in October as the speaker has mandated all hoc committees to wind up by 30th September.
