According to eyewitnesses, the accident involved a commercial bus and a truck.
Bodies of victims lay by the roadside, while the driver of the bus remained trapped behind the wheel.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force immediately deployed rescue teams to the scene.
Families of the victims have been thrown into mourning as the Itaogbolu community struggles to come to terms with the deadly crash.
