The leadership of the The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), in Ekiti State on Wednesday, visited the wife of Ekiti State Governor,  Olayemi Oyebanji, and sought her support on various challenges hampering their activities in the state.

The association’s chairperson, Mrs Oyinade Olatunbosun, who briefed Oyebanji on the activities of FIDA said it was a global association of women Lawyers with focus on protecting the rights of women and children.

“In Ekiti, we have intervened in many cases of women and children abuses and got positive results. Our officers do travel to rural areas, most times, through public transport, to seek redress for victims of rape, molestation and other forms of gender-based violence,” she said.

Olatunbosun, however, appealed to the Governor’s wife to assist the association through provision of incentives that could assist members in providing judicial services to the vulnerable free of charge.

Responding, Dr .Oyebanji appreciated the female lawyers for the selfless roles they have played in the society, urging them not to relent.

The first lady also added that her office would be willing to collaborate with FIDA, to further prevent human rights abuse and domestic violence.
