FG clears air on completion date for Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

FG CLEARS AIR ON ACTUAL COMPLETION DATE OF LAGOS-IBADAN EXPRESSWAY

Federal Government says the rehabilitation of the Lagos Ibadan Road is bound to be completed on the 31st of March 2023.

The Federal Controller of Works Ogun state gave the confirmation at the opening of section two of the Lagos Ibadan expressway.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of the busiest roads in Nigeria

Several administrations have failed make it passable until, the President Buhari administration decided to face this challenge and make it a pleasurable ride for motorists.

The due date for its completion has become a cause for worry for those who ply this route.

In line with directive of the Minister of works, Babatunde Fashola, the Ogun State controller of works alongside the project managers and other relevant stakeholders are here for the partial reopening of the section 2 of the road.

This according to her is to ease free flow of vehicular movements for travelers along the road during this festive period.

While asking road users to drive safely, the controller confirmed that road which has reached 85percent completion will be commissioned by march 2023.

The project manager assured that they would keep to the completion date and ensure to deliver quality job.

The section 2 of the 120km road begins from Sagamu to Iwo Road in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has been under construction since the inauguration of the Muhammadu Buhari led administration and has though been constructed steadily over the years of its construction suffered from funding issues which were however resolved in 2018.

The Funding arrangement involved the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund and the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Fund and the Sukuk fund which has ensured that it is now on the verge of completion.
The road has also been in use through the course of its construction making it a little bit more challenging to the contractors of both Sections of the 120Km stretch of road which is the busiest and most Economically strategic road in Nigeria.
