FG Advocates Nationwide Ban On Single Use Plastics

The Minister of State for Environment has called on all State ministries of environments across Nigeria to immediately adopt the policy of banning single use plastics in their offices and operations, as a minimum symbolic demonstration and preparation for the inevitable ban of single use plastics in our country.

The federal government has directed state ministries of environment to place a ban on all single use plastics in their operations in order to further protect the environment and reduce problems associated with poor management of the environment.

The Minister of State for Environment, Iziaq Salako, disclosed this at the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency’s Chemical handlers and users workshop held in Abeokuta.

Speaking on the theme of the event, Chemicals and Waste Management: Circular Solutions for Sustainable Economy, the minister outlined some of the plans of the ministry, adding that the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is resolute in achieving a clean circular and buoyant economy for the nation.

The Governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun who was represented by his Deputy, Noimot-Salako Oyedele said the state is committed providing social welfare and wellbeing and being the industrial capital of the country, the need for such programme in order to protect the environment and the residents.

Representative of the manufacturers say they are ready to support the Government in ensuring cleaner environment and reduce pollution.

Stakeholders at the event used the opportunity of the programme to discuss and issues concerning environmental management and suggest circular solutions for a sustainable economy.
