Doctors in Ogun State are currently on indefinite strike over unresolved salary disparities between federal and state medical personnel.

The strike, which began over the weekend, is increasingly hurting the state health system, with most hospital waiting rooms empty.

For some time now, the problem of pay gap between federal and state medical personnel has sparked protests in Ogun State, and following a three-day warning strike, doctors in the state have gone on indefinite strike.

The State Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Association, Kunle Ashimi explained that members of the association in the state embarked on the strike to find a solution to an unresolved issue which has lasted for too long.

He said many doctors are not happy with the current state of things in Ogun State and desire change, especially on issues of pay disparity.

Doctors were not available to attend to patients during the TVC news crew’s visit to certain government hospitals in Abeokuta, in addition to other health professionals and consultants who were there.

The waiting rooms and other areas where patients would sit to arrange appointments or visit doctors were deserted.

Some of the patients who talked off camera stated that they were instructed to return at another time since the doctors were not accessible right now.

Attempts to elicit a response from the state were futile, but sources revealed that the state government is now working with the doctors to fix the situation.
