The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has reaffirmed that the ban on the use and sale of fireworks remains in force as part of measures to ensure a safe and peaceful festive season.
The ban covers all forms of pyrotechnics, including firecrackers commonly known as “knock-outs” and “bangers”. The police say the restriction is necessary as criminals often exploit the noise and chaos created by fireworks to commit offences during the Yuletide.
Parents and guardians have been advised to caution their children and wards against using such items, while retailers have been warned to immediately stop their sale.

Anyone found violating the directive will be arrested, prosecuted and have their products confiscated.
CP Abaniwonda has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, as well as all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to enforce strict compliance across their jurisdictions.
He commended residents for their cooperation and urged the public to report any use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or through the Command’s control room lines:
