The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has committed to assist the Nigeria Police Force in enhancing peace and security for the benefit of law-abiding residents and the government as a whole.

Governor Oborevwori made the pledge while receiving the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, and his staff at the Government House in Asaba, Delta State’s capital.

Oborevwori, who was accompanied by members of the Delta State Executive Council, encouraged the police commissioner to collaborate with the government to ensure residents’ safety at all times.

He said, “We warmly welcome you to our dear Delta State. I am delighted that on assumption of duty, you promised to ensure that there is peace in Delta State. I, therefore, urge you to keep to your promise of ensuring that the people sleep with their two eyes closed not with fear of the unknown or attack.”

The governor hinted that one cardinal policy of his development agenda for the state, which is christened M.O.R.E (Meaningful Development; Opportunities for All; Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security), hinges on peace and security.

“In line with my M.O.R.E. agenda, which the ‘E’ represents, I will provide the necessary support to you and your team would need to sustain peace and enhance security in Delta State.

“As a government, our goal is to provide sustainable development and opportunities for the people. These can only be achieved successfully when there is peace and security,” he stressed.

Governor Oborevwori commended the former police commissioner, Mr. Wale Abass for his diligent and passionate service to the people of Delta State.

He noted that the synergy between the government and the police has built trust and confidence of the people in the ability of the Nigeria Police force to serve.

He further pledged to donate some operational vehicles to the Delta State Police Command, adding “This is to demonstrate my administration’s will to strengthen our partnership with the police to curb crime and ensure absolute rural and urban safety.”
