As the debate over which state is most impacted by the flood continues, Delta state Government is saying the focus should be on resettling affected persons and estimating the damage caused by the natural disaster.

Secretary to Delta State Government, Patrick Ukah while briefing journalists said regrettably 15 lives were lost

According to him,  the loss of lives and property recorded by the state would have been more catastrophic if not for the proactive steps taken by the state government.

Mr Ukah added that the 2022 flood was  far more devastating than what was experienced in 2012.

He added that the state government has a record of 21,000 persons in eight Internally Displaced Persons  (IDPs) camps set up by the state.

“Another 17, 000 persons in four IDPs camps was  set up by Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission  (DESOPADEC).

Delta state is one of the worst hit states by the devastating flood but the government are yet to come up with an estimate of the extent of destruction of roads, farmlands and property

At a press conference, Delta State Flood Management Committee gave an insight into the gravity of the floods.

The state government has not disclosed the cost of flood management at this time because it is planning to relocate victims from IDP camps to their homes.
