Civil Society Organizations have launched the “ifollowthemoney” app in Abuja , a social accountability initiative platform in six languages, targeting seven million people across Africa. The app is set to be upscaled and launched in Cameroon ,Cape Verde, Gambia , Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, South Sudan and Zimbabwe.

Nigeria has a high rate of corruption in governance , with such practices like misappropriation of funds , lack of accountability and transparency, prevalent at all levels. This has remained a subject of discourse and a major dent to the Nation’s image .

Over the years ,various panels have been set up by various administrations in a bid to curb these practices across the country but nothing ever comes out if these efforts.

This is why this group of CSOs have decided to collaborate with stakeholders in the international sector to make this a reality .

At this event , leaders from various groups explains that ; the platform is designed to benefit countries that share similar challenges of lack of good governance, misappropriation of funds and other corrupt practices .

The project will put more power in hands of citizens to monitor projects at all levels and seek accountability. The app will run in Amharic, Arabic, English, Portuguese , and Swahili languages.

The group wants the world to see the positives coming from Nigeria and Africa that are driven by the principle of transparency, accountability which will help deepen democracy.
