The Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon Aminu Iya Abbas has lost his Senatorial ticket for the state Central Senatorial Zone.

This was the ruling of the Federal High Court Yola who nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primaries that produced Hon Aminu Abbas as the party’s Central senatorial candidate.

The court reasoned that participation of Awwal Tukur in the primaries without resigning as the Chairman Board of Trustees, Adamawa State University, thus contravening the electoral law and the nation’s constitution.

Justice A.M. Anka, hinted that with the constitution breach, PDP has no candidate for the central Senatorial Zone of the state.

Reacting, counsels to the plaintiff, and PDP, said they would consult with their principal for the next step of action.

There has been a lot of crisis and upheavals within the Adamawa State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party since the conclusion of the Party’s primaries at all levels.

Members of the party have been at each Others throat despite the emergence of Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Even the Governorship Ticket of the party is still in contention before the Courts with a member, Abubakar Waziri, still before the Court to invalidate the primary which gave the ticket of the party to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri.

He had prayed the Court to declare the Party not in compliance with its Constitution, the Electoral and its own Constitution in the conduct of the primary calling for its cancellation.

The Peoples Democratic Party though is expected to appeal the judgement since the Federal High Court is the Court of first jurisdiction.

The case is expected to take the matter before the Court of Appeal and if dissatisfied with the judgment will take it to the Supreme Court but this kind of judgment is not without precedent.
