That directive has hampered the suit seeking to declare Senator Ike Ekwerenadu’s seat vacant.

The matter which should have been taken in the last adjourned date, was dropped due to the absence of 7 defendants in the suit.

Their absence forced the judge to adjourned the matter.

At the resumed hearing, parties in the suit were asked to pick another date, due to the new development.

The plaintiff expressed worry over the delay of the matter, which he sought should have been given expeditious hearing, claiming citizens of Enugu West senatorial zone were denied quality representation, due to the absence of the Federal lawmaker to discharge his duty as their senator.

The plaintiff maintained that the litigation was an issue base matter and should not be carpeted by sentiment.

The matter has been adjourned to December 7 for continuation of hearing.

Senator Ike Ekwerenadu’s matter in far away United Kingdom was recently adjourned to 31st of January 2023

With about 7 months to the expiration of the Ninth National Assembly, it remains to be seen, if the applicant efforts to compel the court to declare the lawmaker’s seat vacant will succeed or not.

Ike Ekweremadu, a former deputy Senate President and Beatrice, his wife, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

The couple were arrested by London Metropolitan Police in June and appeared before a magistrate court in July.
