A state high court sitting in Niger state has held that the Economic and financial Crimes Commission has not shown diligence in prosecuting the corruption case brought against the former Governor of Niger State Mu’azu Aliyu
At the resumed sitting the prosecution told the court that he is withdrawing from the case.
In his response counsel to the defendant insisted that the prosecution should equally declare it had similarly withdrawn its case.
On three consecutive adjournments, the prosecution counsel did not appear before the court neither did he send any representative.
Counsel to the defendant urged the court to discharge and acquit the defendant, for failure of the prosecution to pursue the case.
Trial Justice Mikailu Abdullahi discharged and acquitted the defendants for lack of diligent prosecution by the EFCC.
