Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force in Gamboru Ngala of Borno state northeast Nigeria have killed Boko Haram fighters, who attacked Army personnel along Maiduguri-Gamboru Ngala Road on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, the local volunteers pursued the insurgents through the rough road after dislodging some Nigerian troops and took over one of the Army Vehicles while the remaining Army personnel escaped.

A security source told TVC News that 20 Boko haram terrorist were killed while 13 Rifles and Ammunition from the Boko Haram terrorist were recovered by the CJTF.

The Civilian Joint Task Force have been a very good tool by the Military in the over a decade war on Insurgents in Borno and Other States in the North East.

The Civilian Joint Task Force was first established as Volunteer force to root the Boko Haram Terror group out of major urban Centres in Borno State.

They were later integrated as an information gathering force and first responders in the case of attacks by Insurgents who have largely evolved since the early days of the Insurgency by the Jammatul Alhi Sunnah Lil Dawatil Li Quran Wal Jihad under the leadership of the late Muhammed Yusuff.

He has since been succeeded by Abubakar Shekau under whose leadership the group grew into the deadliest Terror group in the World and the Civilian Joint Task Force also made a name for themselves.

The Borno State government and the other two States of Yobe and Adamawa commonly referred to as the BAY States have been reeling under the effects of the insurgency with Borno particularly worse hit as the epicentre of the fighting, destruction and killings.

Though many had blamed the killing of the founder of Jammatul Ali Sunnah Lil Dawatil Li Quran wal Jihad as the main reason for the metamorphosis of the group into a full blown Terrorist organisation, the Armed Forces of Nigeria have been able to a large extent curtailed their activities to some parts of Borno State with Yobe and Adamawa relatively peaceful in the last few years.
