Every 25th of December is set out by Christian faithful to celebrate Christmas which is believe to be the birth of Jesus Christ .

Families are ready to bond but the cost of buying livestock for the merriment is nothing to cheer.

It’s a beehive of activities in Enugu, as many residents were seen doing last minute shopping ahead Christmas.

A visit to New Artisans livestock market, depicts a chaotic atmosphere, a scene good to behold, having sea of heads of cattle, Sheep, Goats and other animals for the season.

At the Goat and Sheep section of the market, customers troop in to buy, but were discouraged at the hike in the prices compare to how much it was sold last year

The sellers are also worried about low patronage, even when Christmas is just two days away.

A similar scenario was recorded at the Cow market where buyers were groaning over economic situation in the country, calling on government to put measures to check the rising cost of items in the market.

Chairman of the Market shares with TVC News what may have contributed to the increase in the livestock prices.

The mood at the Old Artisan and New Market is however different, as chicken and other food items recorded low patronage, with buyers seen shopping with little expectations .
They say The hike in price is synonymous with the economic matrix of recording high demands of commodities in Yuletide. It is believe that prices of these livestock will drop after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
