President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria is working with the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS) to implement strategies to halt unconstitutional change of governments in the region.
He also warned foreign governments against meddling in Nigeria’s internal affairs especially as the country prepares for a general election.
The ceremonial military parade by the Presidential guards’ brigade welcomed visiting Presidents, heads of government, and newly assigned ambassadors.
President Buhari told the six new ambassadors that he wants friendly countries to support efforts to address the problem of insecurity, fight against corruption, and diversify the economy.
President Buhari emphasised Nigeria’s role as a leader in the West African area, as well as the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security. Nonetheless, he claims that Nigeria is collaborating with ECOWAS to adopt methods to stem the tide of unlawful government changes.
However, President Buhari is vehemently opposed to foreign government agents interfering in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
He also told the ambassadors that Nigeria was working closely with ECOWAS to deal with insecurity in the West African region as well as implementing strategies to contain the spate of unconstitutional changes in government within the region.
The Letters of credence presented to President Buhari are from the ambassadors of Switzerland, Sweden, The Republic of Ireland, The kingdom of Thailand, The republic of Senegal, and the republic of south Sudan.
President Buhari called for cooperation and collaboration from the countries to overcome challenges in West Africa.
The President told the ambassadors that Nigeria, no doubt, enjoys very cordial and mutually beneficial bilateral relations and cooperation with their respective countries, commending the roles of their predecessors who demonstrated diligence and commitment to advance these causes.
