Nigeria’s high unemployment rate may soon reduce following the disbursement of more than 2 billion Naira to young graduates and entrepreneurs across the country.

This initiative was achieved through partnership with the National Youth Service Corps .

The Executive Director , Small and Medium Enterprises, Shekarau Omar disclosed this at the Official launch of the Graduate Employability Skills training in Abuja.

Efforts to bridge the wide gap of unemployment in Nigeria may record modest successes as thousands of the unemployed population have been empowered with grants to further enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

This is the Maiden Edition of the Graduate Employability skills workshop, organized by Terra Skills, a Skill development programme founded by the Senate’s Deputy Chief Whip , Abdullahi Sabi .

This programme compliments Government’s social intervention networks designed to encourage the growth of small and medium scale enterprises and it emphasizes the importance of Capacity Building with interventions made in this regard .

This initiative known as TERRA Skills says it has also contributed in alleviating the sufferings of ordinary Nigerians as it has been able to train over 4000 graduates in different survival skills

Participants are hopeful that these interventions would greatly reduce the high rate of crime and Bring Nigeria at par with the Western world in terms of development and social Skills .

The BOI is also seeking stronger collaboration with Terra skills to further widen the scope of its interventions for the unemployed across the country.

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, was established in 1976 to serve as like an exchange programme between all parts of Nigeria for graduates to also learn the Cultures of their fellow countrymen and Women and understand the diversities in the Country.

The scheme has also come under attack for a few years now following what observers call its archaic regulations calling for its reforms and the need to ensure Corps members are gainfully engaged or employed to help reduce the nations’ unemployment rate.

The partnership with Terra Skills and the Bank of Industry is part of the ongoing evolution which started taking root in the early 2000’s under the Leadership of Brigadier General Yusuf Bomoi as Director General.
