The Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Gboribiogha Jonah said the statutory monthly Transparency Media Briefing was introduced to give people of the state the right to hold government accountable. Deputy Governor Jonah made the statement at a Mandatory Professional Training Programme On Taxation in Yenagoa, the state capital.

Ovieteme George reports that the Monthly Transparency Media Briefing is an initiative of governor Seriake Dickson upon assumption of office in 2012.

Backed by law, the fiscal accountability programme has endured over the years.

At the Mandatory Professional Training Programme, Deputy Governor Gboribiogha Jonah restated the government policy in relation to tax obligation.

President of the Chartered Institute Of Taxation Nigeria, Cyril Ikemefuna-Ede speak on the training programme.

The major topics at the training are: Contemporary Issues in Transaction Taxes: Focus on Value Added Tax and Excise Duties. Nigerian Tax Law; Offences and Penalties Enhancing Revenue Generation through indirect Taxes.
