The Nigerian Army has arrested a three-man gang in connection with the kidnap of two toddlers aged one and two years in Adamawa and Taraba States.

Lt. Col. Musa Adamu commanding the Army’s 20 Model Battalion in Serti said the arrests were made at a checkpoint following a response to distress calls.

Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi’s report that a Lexus SUV marked with a Lagos registration number is suspected to have Ruth Okoronkwo being used by a businesswoman from Abia state to abduct two children before it was intercepted.

Speaking before newsmen at the Taraba state Police command, she confesses to have been recruited to kidnap infants for a fee.

Her suspected recruiter, who poses as a taxi driver, said he carried out the operation based on the prospect of financial gain made to him by
someone in Abia state.

A family member of one of the kidnapped infants at Iware in Taraba state, who alerted the soldiers on the development told reporters how they were able to track them down.

The army pledges to discharge its duties with a mind to maintaining inter-agency collaboration for internal security. For Taraba residents it is time for the soldiers to put the incident at Ibi behind them and continue to put in their best for the country.

This will be the first time security agents will parade kidnappers since governor Darius Ishaku signed into law a bill prescribing death penalty for
abductors.
