The All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council for re-election of Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara state has hinted that some leading opposition party governorship candidate will soon rejoin the APC.

The campaign council also said that exodus of governorship and senatorial candidates of the YPP, SDP, NNPP and ADC from the ruling party will not have any negative effect on the chances of the governor in the 2023 general elections.

Some governorship candidates of the major opposition parties in Kwara state were in APC in 2019 and contested the party’s governorship primary election with the eventual winner, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq .

They include Shuaib Yaman Abdullahi of PDP, Hakeem Lawal of SDP, Yakubu Gobir of YPP and Prof Shuaib Abdulraheem of the NNPP.

Apart from the PDP candidate who is from Kwara north, the three others are from Kwara central where the APC candidate also comes from.

But the Kwara state APC campaign council led by another former APC governorshiP aspirant, AbdulFatah Yahaya-Seriki, says this will not affect the re-election bid of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The campaign council also says it is in talks with some of the leading governorship candidates to align with the APC.

The spokesperson of the campaign council, Florence Oyeyemi, is confident the performance of the governor, when compared to previous administrations, will earn him a second term in office.

The campaign council will soon embark on aggressive campaigns across the state for the victory of the APC in all elections.

The Kwara State Governorship is expected to be keenly contested between the All Progressives Congress and Opposition parties led by the Peoples Democratic party under the leadership of former Governor, Senator Bukola Saraki who was also a former President of the Senate.

Others expected to provide the ruling party are the Social Democratic Party whose candidate is the son of a former Governor of the State Mohammed Alabi Lawal, Hakeem Lawal who interestingly is an in-law to current governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.
