Member representing Apa/Agatu Federal constituency of Benue state, Ojotu Ojema has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

His letter of defection was read on the floor of the House by Deputy.Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, and in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Benue state, Sam Ode.

Mr. Ojema cited intractable party crisis as reasons for his defection from the PDP.

Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki raised a point of constitutional order and cited Section 68 1 g , insisting there is no crisis in the PDP and wanted the Speaker to declare the seat vacant.

His submission was, however, punctured by Deputy House Leader, Ibrahim Halims, who pushed for Section 7 of the same constitution, which stipulates unresolved crisis as legitimate reasons for a politician to jump ship.
