Malachy Ugwummadu, a constitutional Lawyer and former head of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights has said that the Fight against Corruption in Nigeria is on.

Mr Ugwummadu made this assertion while reacting to the comments credited to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, on how well the agency has done in fighting corruption.

He said though what the Commission under Mr Bawa has done in fighting corruption when compared to what to its strides since inception may not be the biggest but the fact is that the Fight is on.

He disclosed that the Nation is so much into graft and corrupt practices that rating by independent agencies may not do to much to change the perception but that the efforts being made now are quite commendable.

On the conviction of the Director General of the Obi-Datti Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, by an Abuja Federal High Court over Money Laundering prohibition Act infractions, he said the issue should not be about Politics but facts which he said are sacred.

He said based on the case, there were identified infractions by Mr Okupe of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act and the Court said yes to his conviction and should not be an issue.

He however frowned at the length it took between when the case started in 2019 to now when the verdict is given.

He added that the law of the Court states that the case should have been decided within 90 days which is not the case here and may be a ground of Appeal.

He said the issue should not be politicised over what is neither here nor there.

Going Further, He added that the Administration of Criminal Justice System Law that was signed by President Goodluck Jonathan made a provision for daily trial in criminal cases so as to ensure that trials of cases are expedited.
