Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has directed two newly inaugurated inter-ministerial committees to accelerate efforts toward the commencement of international operations at the Victor Attah International Airport and the full rollout of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) for internally generated revenue in the state.

The governor charged the committee overseeing the airport’s international status to ensure that all regulatory, operational, and infrastructural requirements are fully satisfied ahead of the airport’s planned take-off in April. The Victor Attah Airport was upgraded to international status by the Federal Government last year, paving the way for international passenger traffic in 2026.

Governor Eno also tasked the TSA committee with ensuring the comprehensive implementation of the TSA framework for state-generated revenue, describing it as critical to transparency, accountability, and improved fiscal management.

The directives were issued on Monday during an enlarged State Executive Council meeting shortly after the governor signed the ₦1.585 trillion 2026 appropriation bill into law. He subsequently inaugurated the two committees as part of broader efforts to strengthen governance structures and fast-track key development initiatives.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, the government said the inauguration underscored the administration’s commitment to institutional reforms and the timely delivery of priority projects.

The Inter-Ministerial Committee on International Airport Status Implementation is chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah. Other members include the Commissioner for Finance and Special Duties, Emem Bob; Managing Director of Ibom Air, George Uriesi; Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Engr. Ephraim Udosen; and the Accountant-General, Pastor Uwem Andrew Essien. The Managing Director of the Airport Development Authority, Uwem Ekanem, will serve as secretary.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Ministerial Committee on TSA implementation for internally generated revenue is headed by the Commissioner for Finance, Emem Bob. Its members are the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom (SAN); Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr Frank Ekpenyong; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Frank Archibong; Commissioner for Lands, Dr Ubong Inyang; and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Linus Nkan. The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, Okon Okon, will serve as secretary.

Governor Eno expressed confidence in the capacity and experience of the committee members, noting that their collective expertise would enhance infrastructural development and strengthen the state’s financial systems. He urged them to sustain momentum and ensure that all preparatory activities remain on track.

“I expect this committee to work tirelessly to ensure the realisation and commencement of full operations at the international airport by the first week of April 2026,” he said.

Governor Eno reiterated the need for transparency, fiscal discipline and effective coordination across government agencies, warning that no agency of government is permitted to operate an independent account.

“No agency is allowed to own its own stand-alone account. All revenue must be generated and spent through one account. This is the only way we can maintain transparency and track our resources effectively.

“Let me make it absolutely clear that no part of government will generate money and spend.

“Please, if we find out that you circumvent this instruction in any way, we will not take it kindly. All funds should go to the Treasury Single Account.

“Then the committee will give back some percentages to the MDAs as running costs. We have a huge budget of ₦1.5 trillion, and we need these funds for the good of our people.”

Eno added, “As we speak, we know that Akwa Ibom is not owing any bank in this country — not one bank.

“And we don’t intend to owe, except if it becomes absolutely necessary, and we’ll go to the House of Assembly and make our case.

“We know there will be deficits from what we project from the federation account. We don’t intend to borrow. But we know that if we are honest, transparent and accountable, and all of us work to support the Treasury Single Account, we’ll have more than enough to execute the budget.”
