The Chief of the Air staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao has reiterated the commitment of the AirForce through its College of Nursing Science Kaduna, to effectively train both civilian and military nurses on global best practices in the profession.
He explains that this has become essential especially now that the world grapples with diverse public health concerns such as Lassa fever, Ebola Virus, the Covid -19 Pandemic and monkey pox.
He stated this during the maiden graduation ceremony of the pioneer set of 30 nurses at the Nigerian Air force College of Nursing Science in Kaduna.
The Air force authorities say the nurses will be given additional six months training in aeromedical evacuation techniques after which they will be posted to various theaters of operations to carry out aeromedical operations.
Aeromedical evacuation refers to the use of military transport aircraft to carry wounded personnel.
The Nigerian Air force college of nursing was established as an autonomous unit in August 2021 to consolidated the rapid expansion and upgrade of the medical services branch of the Air force.
The expansion of the Nursing Unit within the Nigerian Airforce in 2021 and expansion of its medical facilities will ensure that the Airforce is able to cater for its own unique medical needs.
It will also ensure that Officers and men of the Nigerian Airforce are like there colleagues from Other parts of the World treated with cutting edge technologies and by people who already have a fair idea of the kind of injuries they can suffer in the line of duty.
The ability and expertise to do this when properly harnessed will save the nation Thousands of Dollars in Foreign Exchange and also earn for the nation from those who may come for treatment at the nations’ military medical Centre.
It will also help in raising the capacity of the Nigerian Military to also engage in Core research like their counterparts in Other parts of the World.
