Agege Local Government, in partnership with T.Topps Foods Inspire Lagos, has slashed food prices by 50% for 5,000 residents as part of its ongoing food subsidy programme.
The initiative, now in its third edition, continues to ease the burden of rising food costs by offering major staples at half their market prices. The first and second editions drew over 4,000 beneficiaries, while the latest edition, held at the Agege Stadium, recorded more than 5,000 attendees.
Hon. Obasa said the partnership with T.Topps Foods is aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, especially the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income households.

Sixteen essential food items—including rice, beans, yam, semovita, pasta, noodles, garri, palm oil, vegetable oil, and frozen chicken—were heavily discounted. For example, a carton of noodles priced at N10,000 in the open market sold for N5,000, while the price of chicken dropped from N6,000 per kilo to N3,000.
The food subsidy initiative is scheduled to run quarterly, with the next edition coming up in December.
