The Adamawa State Police command has confirmed the death of 50 worshippers in an early morning suicide attack on a Mosque in ancient Mubi town.
The image maker of the Command, SP Abubakar Othman said 50 corpses and several wounded persons have been evacuated from the popular Shiwa Mosque, Angwar Medina in Yelwa quarters Mubi, a commercial nerve center of the area.
But an eyewitness said the death toll could be more than 70.
Othman the situsaidation as at the time he confirmed the unfortunate incident has been put under control by the combined team of the military, police and other security operatives.
An eyewitness said two suspected suicide bombers ran from different directions into the mosque at about 5.00 AM Tuesday while Muslim worshippers were observing early morning prayers.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ahmad Sajoh confirmed the number of casualty with a large number of those critically wounded.
Sajor affirmed that the wounded were receiving medical attention at the Mubi General Hospital while some may be transferred to Federal Medical Center, Yola even as Government has dispatched a medical team to Mubi to support the process.
Sajoh described it as unfortunate and painful considering number of lives lost and those injured.
