Abia, Imo Communities Call For Completion Of 20Km Link Road

The people of Umunwanwa in Abia State and Obizi in Imo State are raising fresh concerns over the prolonged delay in the reconstruction of the 20-kilometer road linking the two communities.

The contract, awarded to ease transportation and boost economic activities, has stalled, leaving residents frustrated.

This road, which serves as a crucial link between Abia and Imo states, has been in a state of disrepair for decades.

The federal government awarded the contract to reconstruct it, yet progress has been slow, leading to mounting concerns among residents.

The Umunwanwa Bridge, a critical component of this road, has remained impassable since it was severely damaged during the Nigerian Civil War over 55 years ago.

Despite its historical and economic significance, it has yet to be fully restored.

A former member of the House of Representatives who facilitated the road project expressed disappointment over the delay, stating that the contractor’s inaction undermines President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to addressing Nigeria’s long-standing infrastructural deficits.

Once completed, the road is expected to significantly boost economic activities in the region, easing transportation for farmers, traders, and commuters.
For now, however, residents continue to wait, hoping their cries will be heard.
