62 Senior Lawyers to be formally conferred rank of SAN Nov. 28

An induction has been held for the 62 senior lawyers who were recently elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in Lagos.

The designates were urged to be alive to their new role of mentors in the legal profession and the society.

Out of the 129 lawyers shortlisted for the conferment of the rank of senior Advocates of Nigeria in June 2022, 62 applicants emerged successful in September.

The fourth annual induction edition was put together by the body of senior Advocates of Nigeria.

Since 2018, Senior members of the bench and the inner bar make up the faculty which is tasked with the role of acquainting the inductees with their new leadership rules.

Retired justice of the court of appeal, According to Mojeed Owoade, said because they are leaders, they must necessarily keep their integrity.

He stated that their integrity must never be stained and they must therefore continue to mentore younger ones in the profession so that
the profession will be better off for their role as leaders in the profession.

Topics at the interactive sessions included legal ethics and professionalism, understanding the culture and demands of continuous
Excellence as well as regulation of senior Advocates and their duty to the courts, bar and the society.

“Over the years, there have been reports of senior Advocates not complying with the requisite ethical standards that are required in the profession. As leaders of the noble profession, it should ensure that they wear their rank with the kind of dignity and honor that it truly deserves,” this is according to Seyi Sowemimo, Secretary, Body of the senior advocate of Nigeria.

The 2022 SAN designates made up of 53 Advocates and 9 academics will be formally conferred with the rank of senior Advocates of Nigeria on November the 28th.
