Thirty senior police officers, including an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), two Commissioners of Police (CPs), eleven Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and sixteen Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), were on Monday subjected to compulsory promotion examinations by the Police Service Commission (PSC).

The exercise, held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall on the sixth floor of the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, is now a prerequisite for career progression in the Nigeria Police Force.

Chairman of the PSC, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Hashimu Argungu, described the examination as a landmark reform designed to restore professionalism and merit in the Force.

He stressed that officers who fail the test three times would be compulsorily retired for incompetence.

“The world has since embraced the era of skill. Police officers who wish to advance their careers must be ready to meet the demands of this era,” DIG Argungu said.

He further stated that the Commission was applying strict due diligence to prevent errors, including the inadvertent promotion of dead or retired officers.

Among those present at the examination were Honourable Commissioners of the PSC: retired Supreme Court Justice Paul Adamu Galumje; retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu; retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup; retired DIG Uba Bala Ringim; and Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed.

The oral interviews for the candidates are scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 30 September 2025.
