22 students and workers of the Federal University of Gusau in Zamfara who have been in captivity for more than 205 days have expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for their new-found freedom.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who received them in Abuja, reaffirmed the government’s resolve to secure the release of persons still in captivity.
It’s a long walk to freedom for these students and workers of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State after more than 205 days in captivity.
They were taken from their hostels in the Sabon-Gida community of Bungudu Local Government Area of the state.
A swift response by security forces immediately resulted in the rescue of six of the victims.
But freedom for the remaining kidnap victims arrived in piecemeals.
The National Security Adviser received the kidnap victims, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring no one is left in captivity.
For some of the victims, the journey to freedom was slow, but they are grateful it eventually came.
The spate of kidnappings, especially of students in Nigeria, continues to pile pressure on the government, whose efforts to secure their release are now yielding some results.
