Britain’s Monarch Airlines collapses, stops operations

Monarch Airlines in the UK has collapsed, becoming the biggest-ever British airline to cause the repatriation of tens of thousands of travellers.

Administrators for the airline, KPMG, said Monarch was forced to cease trading as a result of continuing losses.

Monarch cancelled about 300,000 future bookings and apologised to customers and staff as it became the UK’s largest carrier to go into administration.

The British government has asked the Civil Aviation Authority to charter about aircrafts to bring back to the UK Monarch customers in overseas.
