The executive arm of government has been urged to engage the National Assembly in selection of projects before the 2017 budget is laid by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara disclosed this at a parliamentary forum in Abuja on reforming the budgetary system in Nigeria.
Other speakers at the event called for the urgent passage of a National Budget Act with procedures for swift and reliable budgeting systems rather than a constitutional amendment which may take time.
They also advised the National Assembly to go to the Supreme Court to find out whether they have powers to add or reduce all budgets presented by the executive.
