Wife of Enugu gov. warns parents, guardians against engaging in Child labour

Wife of the Governor of Enugu state, NkeChinyere Mbah has admonished parents and guardians to refrain from engaging Children of school age in economic activities.

She made the call during a road walk against Child Labour in Enugu.

International Labour Organization defines Child Labour as work that deprived children of their childhood, the potential, their dignity and what is harmful to their physical and mental development.

It cautions that not all work undertaken by children to assists the parents at home are classified as child Labour but condemned works that are morally, mentally, physically, Socially or interfere with their schooling

National Bureau of Statistics 2022 survey title Nigeria Child Labour data posits that about 50.5 % of Nigerian Children, aged between 5- 17 are engaged in economic activities .

A survey places children care under sub nationals with various states now domesticating child rights act.

In Enugu, South East, the state government appropriates over 33.% in 2024 budget to fund the digitised education sector that includes free meals per day to children within the smart school facilities.

At this year World Child Labour day, wife of the Governor of Enugu state is leading the advocacy.

Parents and guardians are discouraged to continue child Labour act In the state.

The 2024 walk against child Labour with the THEME, Let’s Act on our commitment, End Child Labour, involved wife of the Governor, Exco and members of the state house Assembly.

CSOs kicked off from Dr Micheal Okpara Square, move through independence layout, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium Road Ogui, Bisala and terminated at Okpara Square Enugu.
