Turn of Ogoni to be elected next governor of Rivers state-Magnus Abe

Senator Magnus Abe has described the 2023 election as an opportunity for the Ogoni people to rewrite their political history.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic party in Rivers State was speaking at an event to Mark the 30th Ogoni day commemoration in Kana local government area.

The senator was greeted by Ogoni natives amid the ferocious celebration that has become customary whenever he travels back to his home land.

Many people see him as the hope to end the decades of political exclusion that the Ogonis feel they have suffered at the hands of more dominant ethnic nationalities in River state.

Senator Abe visited to attend the Ogoni day event which has taken place every year since January 1993 at the Birabi memorial grammar school in memory of the struggle to promote the rights of the Ogoni people.

This year’s event heralds another general election, one in which the people believe that they have a real chance of altering the balance of power in their favor.

“We are going to do what we have never done before. In the past, we voted for other people. In 2023, you must vote for yourself.

“Today, the whole world knows that your son, Senator Magnus Abe will be sworn in as the next Governor of Rivers state.

Senator Abe told the crowd it was the turn of the Ogonis to be elected governor for the first time in the history of River state.

The movement for the survival of Ogoni people organised the event. They committed to pushing for the implementation of the UNEP report on the cleanup of Ogoni land.

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic party later visited the ancestral home of Ken Saro Wiwa in BayE community and the Ken Sarowiwa Memorial Park to pay his respects to the late renowned environmental activist.
