Former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for conferring on him the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), describing the recognition as a proud and defining moment for him and his family.
Troost-Ekong disclosed that he received the official certificate of the honour on Tuesday, a day after the announcement was made, noting that the award reflects not just his personal journey but the collective sacrifices behind his football career.

The Nigerian ex-international said the country gave him his identity, purpose and the platform to live out his dreams through football, adding that wearing the green and white of the national team has always carried a deep sense of responsibility and privilege.

According to him, representing Nigeria is a promise to always give everything for the badge and for the people, a commitment he says has guided his career with the Super Eagles both on and off the pitch.
Troost-Ekong also used the opportunity to rally support for the national team as the Super Eagles begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign, expressing confidence in the squad and the nation’s ability to achieve success at the tournament.
He pledged to stand firmly behind the team throughout their AFCON journey, reiterating his belief in the players, the country and the shared goals that unite Nigerians through football.
The former Super Eagles captain concluded by reaffirming his pride in being Nigerian, describing the MFR honour as a lifelong reminder of the bond between him, the national team and the country he represents.
