Troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade have neutralised several insurgents and recovered weapons and motorcycles during a successful ambush in Kainji Lake National Park.
Operating under Operation Park Strike V, the troops, working with park rangers, mounted an ambush at an insurgents’ crossing point in Tungan Talle, Zugurma Section of the park, at about 1:15 a.m. on 25 September.
A heavy firefight ensued in which an unconfirmed number of insurgents were killed while others escaped with injuries.
Three AK-47 rifles and four motorcycles were recovered from the scene. One park ranger sustained a gunshot wound but was later stabilised.
Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier-General Ezra Barkins, who has relocated to the Step-Up Headquarters at Wawa Cantonment to coordinate ongoing operations, commended the troops for their resilience and professionalism.
He urged them to sustain the momentum and reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements and safeguarding law-abiding citizens.
The Nigerian Army also reiterated its commitment to working with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
