Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s plan to empower at least 1,500 people across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, describing it as “unprecedented in the country’s history.”

Sani made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of 100 free houses for widows under the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) social housing project in Rigachukun, Igabi Local Government Area.

He emphasised that the president’s ward development plan would consider the unique needs of each community. According to the governor, his administration intends to convene town hall meetings with elected officials and stakeholders to identify local priorities across the state.

“The family homes fund social housing project aligns with our administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing for Kaduna citizens,” Sani said.
“Access to safe, affordable and secure housing is the foundation of human dignity. We have been partnering with local and international investors to frontally address our housing deficit.

“We recently distributed houses to families of victims of banditry under the Qatar Sannabil Project, a collaborative initiative between the Kaduna State Government and Qatar Charity.

“We have also flagged off the construction of the 3319-hectare Nuru Suraj Ungwar Dosa new extension layout and Urban Shelter’s 200-hectare housing project in Millennium City, Kaduna.”

The governor added that Kaduna’s “conducive atmosphere and attractive incentives” have attracted housing projects from several federal agencies, including the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Federal Housing Authority (FHA).

“We recently organised a hugely successful international housing exhibition which offered a unique platform for stakeholders to discuss and share housing development initiatives, explore emerging technologies, and proffer practical solutions to Northern Nigeria’s housing challenges,” he said.

FHFL Chairman Ademola Adebise described the project as symbolising “renewed hope and restored dignity” for the 100 widows who benefitted.

“These homes are energy-efficient, incorporating solar energy and sustainable materials. In doing so, we are not only reducing energy costs for these families but also setting a standard for green living,” Adebise said.

“By deploying expanded polystyrene system (EPS) technology, we have achieved faster, more sustainable, and cost-effective housing aligned with Nigeria’s low-carbon objectives.”

He also noted that the project integrates home ownership with skills training, livelihood support, and climate-smart construction, making it a model for sustainable social housing in Nigeria. Each beneficiary received training to support small-scale businesses and was provided a cottage yard for agricultural use within the estate.

Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, highlighted that the Tinubu administration inherited and completed the project. He credited Kaduna’s governor for his hands-on leadership style, saying the project succeeded in the state because “we have a governor who will knock on every door, who will ensure that nobody sleeps until things are done for the benefit of the people.”

Bagudu praised Sani for his commitment to people-centred governance and his presence at the commissioning ceremony.
