President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve a new external borrowing plan of ₦1.84 trillion about $1.23 billion to finance the 2025 budget deficit.
The request, contained in a letter read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, seeks the chamber’s resolution to implement the borrowing already captured in the 2025 Appropriation Act.
The matter has been referred to the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt, which is expected to review the request and report back as soon as practicable.
