The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned three suspects linked to a series of criminal offences, including resisting arrest, obstruction, assault on police officers, abduction of a police officer, and reckless driving.

In a late Saturday statement signed by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, the suspects, Olopade Abraham, Emmanuel Taiwo and Adeyanju Tolutope, were arrested while violating various traffic laws in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, stated that the swift and coordinated arrests reflect the Command’s unwavering commitment to enforcing traffic laws and ensuring the safety of all road users.

The statement reads, “The Ondo State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal, psc(+), mnips, wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of suspects involved in a series of traffic-related and criminal offences, including failure to obey traffic regulations, obstruction, assault on police officers, abduction of a police officer, resisting arrest, and reckless driving.

“The first incident occurred on the 3rd of April, 2026, when one Olopade Abraham ‘M’, of Alagbaka, Akure, while driving a Toyota Avensis vehicle with registration number NND 398 EA, in the company of one Emmanuel Taiwo ‘M’ of the same address, flagrantly disobeyed traffic lights at Cathedral Junction, Akure.

“In the course of enforcing compliance, a Senior Traffic Warden, ST Oliniju Kehinde ‘F’, attached to ‘A’ Division, contravened the offending vehicle. While being directed to proceed to the station, the driver suddenly detoured to an unknown destination with the officer still in the vehicle.”

The statement added, “Upon raising an alarm, a nearby patrol team attached to Fanibi Division swiftly responded, pursued, and intercepted the vehicle at Winners Chapel Junction, Ondo Road, Akure, where the traffic warden was safely rescued. The suspects were eventually taken into custody along with the vehicle.”

“In a separate but related development on the 5th of April, 2026, at about 21:30hrs, a police patrol team on routine duty at the Oba-Ile axis intercepted a vehicle driving against traffic, in clear violation of traffic laws.

“During the enforcement process, one Mrs Adeyanju Tolutope, alongside her husband, who is currently at large, confronted the officers and violently resisted lawful arrest. In the process, she assaulted a police officer, Inspector Tolulope. Following the incident, Mrs Adeyanju Tolutope was arrested and taken into custody. She has since made useful statements, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend her fleeing accomplice.”

The Command CP commended the professionalism, discipline, and restraint exhibited by the officers involved.

The Command reiterates its zero tolerance for traffic violations and warns against any form of assault or obstruction against law enforcement officers.

CP Lawal urges members of the public to comply with traffic regulations and lawful directives from police personnel, adding that violators will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law.
