A group of eminent Nigerians has announced the formation of a new non-partisan political pressure group, ‘The Compatriots’ ahead of the 2023 general election
Their aim is to champion national unity and good governance.
A former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, who is the chairman of The Compatriots, in a maiden press conference in Abuja, listed other members of the group to include Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as deputy chairman and Prince Tom Iseghohi as chief operating officer.

The prospect of a third political force has constantly been mooted, but such movements in the past never made much impact.
Political personalities had from time to time formed a force with the hope of upsetting the system and creating a new order
Like in other climes, a third force is usually a protest movement made up of disgrunt people, coming together, on the basis of ideological considerations and a shared vision.
Again such a force has emerged and they are concerned about the economic hardships in the country, blaming the two major parties for how far things have degenerated.
The core national values of the group include: working for a Strong and united Nigeria; equity, justice and fairness for every citizen; realization of full potentialities of every Nigerian; and the protection of the rights of every Nigerian wherever he/she deicides to reside.
The third force phenomenon gives some Nigerians hope, as it widens the scope of options for more credible and viable candidates for election.
