The Tertiary Education Trust Fund is to partner with Rural Electrification Agency to ensure uninterrupted power supply in universities and other tertiary institutions in the country.
The Executive Secretary of the Fund, who made this known during a courtesy visit by the Managing Director of REA in Abuja, said there is need to improve not just the physical infrastructure but also ICT and research infrastructure in Nigeria’s institutions of learning.
The importance of steady power supply in tertiary institutions cannot be over-emphasized.
To ensure this in Nigerian schools, the federal government in 2016 introduced the “Energizing Education” project.
The Programme is aimed at providing sustainable and clean power supply to 37 Federal Universities and 7 University Teaching Hospitals across Nigeria.
While the programme has already commenced in 24 universities and selected teaching hospitals, there is need to seek cooperation to ensure the total success of the scheme.
The delegation of the rural electrification agency is here at the tertiary education Trust fund to seek its partnership for additional resources to scale up the programme in the nation’s universities.
While pledging support for the partnership, the Executive secretary of the Fund urges REA to revamp the project in some of the beneficiary institutions that have encountered challenges with the Scheme.
For the country to guarantee a learning environment that can compete with others across the globe, it must guarantee steady power supply across its campuses.
