Taraba gov. Kefas announces implementation of FG's minimum wage

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has announced the implementation of the Federal Government approved national minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

This is one of the steps so far taken by Governor Agbu Kefas to address the effects of the fuel subsidy removal.

The governor who revealed this while rolling out his palliative Care initiative at the government house in Jalingo, said the new minimum wage will take effect from October 2023.

Correspondent Owolabi Adenusi reports that it is one of the steps by the Governor to address subsidy removal.

Members of the state executive council and other stakeholders in Taraba converged to discuss this project.

They  gathered at the instance of Governor Agbu Kefas who is worried by the hardship the residents are going through as result of petrol subsidy removal by the federal government.

He used the occasion to roll out his palliative measures to cushion the effects of Subsidy Removal before the stakeholders in the state.

The governor said the welfare of people of the Taraba state remains paramount to his administration.

He explained that local solutions such as retrofitting vehicles from fuel-propelled engines to gas and electric-powered engines would be considered .

The governor also said the government will partner local Transport Unions to subsidize their fares for commuters as well as collaborate with Farmers and vendors to ensure food items are affordable through subsidized prices.

The State Commissioner of Information and reorientation Zainab Usman Jalingo gave more insight into the palliative measures including the new minimum wages for civil servants.

The leadership of the People Democratic Party in the state and the state Chairman Joint Public service negotiating council commended the Governor for the steps taken.

10 000 women and Youths will be temporarily engaged for Six months on a monthly stipend of 15 000 as cleaners.

While Palliative care committee task force has been constituted to ensure that all measures are achieved.
